Fashion has always been a fascinating industry for me as it’s quite simply unique and necessary. It has the ability to adapt to our ever changing economic and social world unlike other industries which is an incredible trait but some would argue it thrives as it is mainly driven by our need of not walking around naked! So I guess we can all see why it’s been around for as long as it has and why it in one way or another affects everyone.
The need for clothes can be argued to be very different to fashion as fashion is considered to be a reflection of consumers desires and wants as our attires have increasingly over the years become more of a status symbol than a necessity. With that said from its inception during World War 1 by Burberry or Aquascutum for an army official and adapted for the trenches (hence it’s name), the trench coat initially created for a functional purpose has now managed to have more than a cats nine lives. Today it’s still hailed as one of the staple items that every woman and man should have and I highly second that notion given I own about three of them in different colours. It has been adapted and modified so many times but the signature look of a trench has never been changed!
It’s military/structured look makes the trench coat not only a timeless piece but very functional. Whether you dress it up for an important business meeting, casual errand day or for the all year rainy days we experience in the British Isles, the trench adds that little bit of sophistication that every outfit requires.
This particular trench stood out for me because of the colour. The burnt orange/rusty colour in my humble opinion oozes sophistication and it just about goes with most colours e.g blue jeans, all white/black.
I went for an all black outfit and just used the trench as the pop of colour that one tone outfits need. You can pair such a coat with either a pair of jeans and a t-shirt for a casual look. Throw some heels on and you’ve got a nice outift for drinks with the girls or wear with a pair of trainers and you have your casual Saturday look on lock for those much needed shopping trips. You could also wear such a coat with an all white outfit for a fresh, modern look.

Trench coats now come in all different shapes, sizes and materials. The design has been adapted by macs, duster coats and depending on whether you want waterproof ones, light, heavy, thin, thick, you can just about find them in every high street shop so no breaking the bank needed. I love this particular one from Forever21 as I wanted something light that was necessary for those slightly coldish spring/summer days to help shield me from that cold breeze (ya’ll know about that cold breeze I’m talking bout) but also look fabulous and lift any outfit.
I hope this look inspires you to go get yourself a trench, mac or duster coat. Trust me you won’t regret it and I’m pretty sure you’ll thank me😊
Thanks for stopping by and hope you have a great week!
